Characteristics of God

10 01 2012

Last Sunday, in spoke if the sacred dance of the trinity.  I discussed how each part of the trinity is separate but they are in perfect union with each other. The trinity is not complete unless all aspects of the trinity are present.  In Scripture we see attributes that are uniquely God given to each part of the trinity.  Here is the chart I referenced.

Omniscient (All Knowing)

  • Father (Ps 139:1-4)
  • Son (John 16:30)
  • Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 2:10-11)

Omnipresent (Everywhere)

  • Father (Jer. 23:23)
  • Son (Matt 28:20)
  • Holy Spirit (Ps. 139:7-10)

Omnipotent (All Powerful)

  • Father (Ps. 139:13-18)
  • Son (John 1:3)
  • Holy Spirit (Job 33:4)

“Overwhelmed by Disaster” Follow-up

21 02 2011

This past week we had the opportunity to look at what we can learn about dealing with disaster as we looked at Noah going through the flood (Genesis 7:7-8:14).  We see some understanding of God through this story.  We see God’s Authority, God’s Power, God’s Faithfulness, and God’s Provision.  It’s so easy to take our eyes off of God and put it on our crisis.  But, remember, even in the midst of crisis God is still at work.

Here’s a link to the extra passages we looked at this week.

“Overwhelmed by Trouble” – Follow-up

14 02 2011

Yesterday was a great day at 33Church’s Family Worship Gathering.  I am constantly amazed at how God is working in our community.  Nate did an amazing job with the music.  Brigette did a wonderful job reading Scripture.  And what can I say about Nikole and her crew in the Prime area as they taught our pre-school kids and took great care of our infants.  Incredible stuff!  And I haven’t even mentioned the volunteers that helped with set-up and tear-down.  I love what these people do for the Kingdom of God.

Yesterday we hit the topic of being overwhelmed by work.  We studied Genesis 6:10-7:6.  Imagine if 100 years of your life could be summed up by this verse: Genesis 6:22!  And, Here are the other passages we looked at in our study:

Don’t forget our Resource drive for Green Springs Elementary.  Details here.

Incredible things coming up.  I can’t wait for March 6.  Don’t miss these next weeks.  See you soon!

“Overwhelmed by Trouble” – Follow-up

7 02 2011

Yesterday we began our new series called “Overwhelmed.”  In this study we will be looking at events that happened in Noah’s life.  Yesterday in Part 1 we discussed this idea of being “Overwhelmed by Trouble.”  In the end it all came down to this.  What you do matters to God!!!

We looked at Genesis 6:1-10.  In this passage we see God’s perspective of the world and we see that His heart was pained by the wickedness of men and the evil in their heart.  It grieved God so terribly that He decided to destroy the world.

SIDE NOTE:  God did not list all of the sins that were being committed. He only really identifies one.  He tells of how “the sons of God” married “The daughters of men.”  To all those that are single you need to hear this.  It pains God’s heart when you give your heart to someone that is not in pursuit of Him! Don’t do it.  Don’t settle for someone just because you haven’t been able to find anyone.  Don’t give your heart away to someone that’s not going to handle it with the love of God.  That is the only thing singled out in Genesis 6 that indicates why God was pained and wanted to destroy the world.  Do not give your heart away to someone who has not given their heart to God!

Yet, there was one man that wasn’t like the rest of the world.  There was one man that the NIV says was Blameless and Righteous.  That man was Noah.  Though God was OVERWHELMED by the evil in the world.  He still took notice of the one man that was doing right.  God sees what you’re doing. The evil breaks His heart.  But, the good blesses Him and He will provide a way for those who are pursuing Him.

Thank you, God, for Jesus!!!

“Community: Who Do You Trust?” – Follow-up

24 01 2011

Well, Saturday when I went to bed I wasn’t sure we’d have much of a crowd with all the snow talk we had on Friday and Saturday. But, Sunday morning we woke up and there was nothing! I was very pleased. We had a nice crowd at our Family Worship Gathering and I was so blessed by the sense of community and worship we had. Thanks to everyone that participated. It was a wonderful morning.

Before we could talk about community we had to deal with the issue of the why did God put the opportunity to sin in the garden. I wrestled with that for a couple of weeks. Click here for the verses I mentioned in that section.

Here’s the diagram I used during the message-Holiness – Looking to God.  It’s a serious issue in the church.  If Christians don’t take this serious we are damaging our impact on the Kingdom of God!

Finally, I told you’d I’d post two things today.  The first is a link to the fantastic videos created by the creator of VeggieTales.  Here’s the “What’s in the Bible?” website. Enjoy!

Next, we announced that we will be adding an intern to our 33 team.  Nate Heavilin is from Olathe and will bring an incredible element to what we are doing at 33.  He’s a talented musician and just has a great heart for people.  Check out this link to hear some of his music. I am confident you will love what you hear.

Keep watching for Sunday’s study to be posted soon.  You can see many of our videos at www.vimeo.com/our33church
